Description

Do you get a quiet thrill when a deferred revenue schedule ties out to the penny? Do you see the story behind the numbers and the rhythm behind the reconciliations? Do you believe clean close, defensible documentation, and smart use of AI are three sides of the same coin? Do you enjoy precision and still appreciate a good piano riff? If so, keep reading…

The team at RTA is looking for a Senior Accountant to own SaaS revenue recognition and meaningful pieces of our monthly close. You’ll report directly to the Controller and work inside a fast-moving SaaS company that treats accounting as a strategic partner — not a back-office afterthought. You’ll also help shape how our team uses AI: leveraging tools to accelerate reconciliations, draft documentation, surface anomalies, and automate the manual work that slows close down — with the judgment and controls to keep our outputs accurate, defensible, and audit-ready.

What We’re Looking For

In general, someone who:

  • Feels at home being a member of a healthy team. This means they aren’t afraid to mix it up or be held accountable by the team and they are willing to hold others accountable as well. People with trust issues and insecurity need not apply. No, seriously.
  • Passionately cares about our clients and helping them be more successful. Our clients are fleet managers, parts clerks, automotive technicians, and they maintain everything from squad cars to school buses so that everyone comes home safely at the end of the day.
  • Thinks of themselves less, while not thinking less of themselves. They are other-centric and compassionate.
  • Is willing to lift boxes, clean floors, and hold doors — and more importantly, sees a problem and digs in to help find a solution. Whatever it takes to get something done.
  • Loves to read, learn, grow, and stretch themselves. Bonus points for each book you’ve read by Patrick Lencioni.
  • Is constantly looking for more: more to learn, more to do, and more opportunity.

Specifically for this job, someone who:

  • Takes real pride in clean financials, airtight support, and building processes that scale without losing their soul.
  • Has strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and ASC 606 revenue recognition across subscriptions, services, and add-ons.
  • Can own meaningful areas of month-end close with predictable timelines, clean reconciliations, and minimal rework — no last-minute fire drills.
  • Uses AI as a daily thinking partner — experimenting with new tools, automating the tedious parts of the work, and sharing what works (and what doesn’t) with the team.
  • Knows where AI belongs — and where human judgment, review, and controls need to stay firmly in the driver’s seat.
  • Is comfortable in modern finance tools (QuickBooks Online, Maxio or similar, Avalara, Paylocity, HubSpot, Mosaic, or comparable systems), and has serious Excel / Google Sheets chops.
  • Partners well across Sales, Customer Success, FP&A, and leadership to solve real business problems — not just tick boxes.
  • Brings a little personality to the work. Music, art, sports, baking, something — you bring your whole self, not just your calculator.

Does this sound like you? Let’s talk!

Key Results Areas (aka the Job Outcomes)

  • Revenue recognition is consistent and audit-ready across subscriptions, services, add-ons, renewals, and changes.
  • Deferred revenue and contract schedules are well-documented, logical, and easy to defend.
  • Your parts of the close run like clockwork — predictable timelines, clean reconciliations, minimal rework.
  • Issues are surfaced early with solutions in hand — no last-minute surprises.
  • AI and automation are meaningfully woven into the workflow, reducing manual effort without compromising accuracy or auditability.
  • Processes steadily improve: fewer manual steps, better checklists, stronger controls.
  • The Controller has full visibility into close and revenue health without having to chase for updates.

Feeling confident that this is in your wheelhouse? Let’s put that to the test!

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

Revenue Recognition & SaaS Accounting (ASC 606)

  • Apply ASC 606 revenue recognition policies across subscriptions, services, and add-ons
  • Manage deferred revenue schedules, including renewals, upgrades/downgrades, contract modifications, and multi-year deals
  • Partner with Sales and Customer Success to ensure billing accuracy and contract terms support proper accounting treatment
  • Help strengthen quote-to-cash practices by identifying gaps, risks, and control improvements
  • Provide oversight into sales tax calculations, filings, nexus monitoring, and compliance practices

Close Ownership & General Accounting

  • Own key components of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process (timelines, tasks, and deliverables for your areas)
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses
  • Maintain GL integrity and ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP
  • Create clear support and documentation for accounting conclusions and close deliverables
  • Support audit requests and year-end reporting, including preparing schedules and responding to questions

Operational Accounting & Controls

  • Support AP, expense management, credit cards, payroll accounting, and accruals as needed
  • Assist with cash management, bank reconciliations, and treasury-related activities
  • Maintain and improve accounting workflows, close checklists, and internal controls
  • Help document policies and procedures so the team can scale without chaos

AI, Automation & Process Innovation

  • Use modern AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Excel/Sheets Copilots, and similar) day-to-day to accelerate reconciliations, flux analysis, research memos, and accounting documentation
  • Identify and implement AI-driven automation across the close, revenue operations, and quote-to-cash — partnering with Finance, RevOps, and IT to put the right tools in the right hands
  • Establish pragmatic review practices and controls around AI-generated outputs so everything we rely on is accurate, explainable, and audit-ready
  • Bring an experimentation mindset — continuously test new AI tools and techniques, share what works (and what doesn’t), and help the broader team level up their AI fluency

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field — CPA or CPA-track preferred
  • 4–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in SaaS or technology
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and practical working knowledge of ASC 606 — required
  • Experience owning meaningful areas of month-end close with clean, supportable workpapers
  • Familiarity with modern accounting and revenue tools (QuickBooks Online, Maxio or similar, Avalara, Paylocity, HubSpot, Mosaic, or comparable) — required
  • Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills with strong analytical capability
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft/Google Copilots, or similar) to accelerate accounting work — or a clear track record of quickly learning and thoughtfully applying new tools
  • Sound judgment around where AI helps and where human review is non-negotiable, with the discipline to build appropriate controls around AI-assisted outputs
  • Multi-entity and/or multi-state operations experience — preferred
  • Audit support experience (public accounting or in-house readiness ownership) — preferred
  • A humble, hungry, and smart approach to your work — team-first, proactive, good judgment

The Bottom Line

You’ve made it this far, so congratulations! We are really looking for people who are ideal team players, with an almost frightening intensity around clean close, defensible revenue, and finding every honest way to let AI and automation do the work that used to drain the team’s energy.
