Full-Stack Software Engineer - Readiness
About the role
Full-Stack Readiness Software Engineer - Build AI products that are ready to scale!
Soraban is a Series A company building the AI operating layer for tax preparation. Its platform helps CPA firms automate client data collection, document workflows, tax preparation, and delivery.
The company has strong product-market fit and is scaling quickly. This role focuses on turning validated product ideas into secure, reliable, production-ready software.
What is a Readiness Engineer?
Soraban separates product development into two complementary roles:
- Discovery Engineers prototype, test, and validate new ideas.
- Readiness Engineers turn those validated ideas into scalable production systems.
You will own the architecture, data models, performance, security, reliability, and product polish required to make those systems work for real customers at scale.
This is not maintenance work. It is the engineering discipline that turns a working prototype into a dependable product.
What You'll Work On:
Productionize new products
Take working MVPs and build the production version.
You will focus on:
- Application architecture
- Data modeling
- APIs and backend services
- Background jobs and asynchronous workflows
- Query and database performance
- Testing, monitoring, and failure handling
Build for tax-season scale - Usage spikes heavily during tax season, so the systems you build need to perform under pressure
You will work on:
- Performance optimization
- Queues and background processing
- Caching
- Database scalability
- Reliability and recovery
- Monitoring and observability
Build security into the product -Soraban handles sensitive taxpayer and financial data, so security is a core engineering requirement.
You will help establish strong patterns around:
- Authentication and authorization
- Input validation
- PII and sensitive-data handling
- Secure data access
- Audit-friendly system design
Own the full product experience
You will also refine React / Next.js experiences to make them polished and trustworthy, including:
- Loading and error states
- Responsive behavior
- Accessibility
- Workflow edge cases
- User interactions
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Strong backend and systems engineering fundamentals
- Experience designing data models and application architecture
- Strong understanding of query performance, background processing, caching, and scalability
- Experience building and supporting production software
- Security-minded engineering habits
- Ability to work across backend and frontend systems
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to ramp quickly in an existing production codebase
Tech stack: Ruby on Rails, React, and Next.js. Exact language and framework experience is less important than strong engineering judgment.
Nice to Have
- B2B SaaS, fintech, tax, or accounting software experience
- Experience handling sensitive financial or personal data
- SOC 2 or compliance-related engineering experience
- Experience with high-volume or seasonal traffic
- Experience rebuilding or replatforming early-stage products
- Ruby on Rails
- React / Next.js
Who Thrives Here
You will likely enjoy this role if you naturally notice and fix things like:
- Weak data models
- Missing indexes
- N+1 queries
- Slow APIs
- Brittle background jobs
- Poor error handling
- Security gaps
- UX that technically works but does not feel finished
You like taking something that works and making it faster, safer, more scalable, and more polished.
Why This Role Matters - The systems you build will directly influence:
- How quickly Soraban can launch new products
- How many CPA firms the platform can support
- How reliably the product performs during tax season
- How securely customer data is handled
- How effectively the engineering team can build on the platform
- How much trust customers place in Soraban's AI-powered workflows
This is a high-ownership role on a small engineering team. The technical decisions you make will become part of the foundation the company scales on.
Why Join Now
Soraban is moving from product-market fit into scale.
You will join early enough to shape the architecture, engineering standards, and product foundation rather than simply maintain systems built by someone else.
For engineers who enjoy ownership, production craftsmanship, and building durable systems in a fast-moving startup, this role offers meaningful scope and impact.
